Graph of civil aircraft trajectory generation and selection for weather avoidance and emission redation
In this paper it is proposed a methodology to automatically produce an adaptive graph of aircraft feasible trajectories based on which it is possible to determine the better trajectory in terms of fuel consumption, weather avoidance and emission reduction. In this contest the aircraft flight is modeled by a finite state automaton where the state is a vector describing the aircraft position, the airspeed and heading; the outputs is the fuel consumption. In the described framework, the aircraft path planning problem is formulated as the search for an optimal transition state path of the automaton which minimizes fuel consumption. The aircraft flight model is formalized, then the graph generation method is described and finally some results for different phase of flight of real aircraft are reported and compared with real flight emissions. This methodology was proposed and developed during in my PHD thesis.
