A Beam Synthesis Procedure for Matrix-Fed Cylindrical Antenna Arrays
Conformal antennas are usually employed for broadcast mast or ship superstructures. The wrap-around antenna geometry can lead to circular, cylindrical or conical array. In some cases the number of array elements is increased to satisfy the inter-element spacing of 0.6l and the 360° azimuth coverage. A beam synthesis procedure is presented here for conformal array fed by Butler matrix beamforing network. The proposed method has been tested for several cylindrical array geometries where the illuminated elements span a sector of maximum 90°. The method has been successfully employed to design wrap-around array systems.
