Title Aircraft Ground Vibration Testing at Leonardo Aircraft Division

Abstract

The Leonardo Aircraft Division performs Ground Vibration Testing (GVT) to assess the structural characteristic of new and extensively modified aircrafts. This stage is mandatory to achieve the permit to fly of newly developed or major modified aircraft, based on CS/AMC25.629 certification requirements. Tested configuration has been dealt with the complete modal aircraft identification and characterization aimed at validation of the aeroelastic model to be used for aeroelastic certification. This paper has been focused on providing a comprehensive overview of all recent enhanced GVT methods and procedures applied by Leonardo in such a context. The last version of C-27J military Leonardo aircraft equipped by winglets on wing tips has been dealt with this paper to demonstrate how the test equipment, procedures and methods applied nowadays by Leonardo are able to lead to the successful achievement of GVT campaign.
