Title
Aspetti funzionali e prestazionali del payload della missione spaziale PRISMA
Abstract
The PRISMA hyperspectral payload consists of an Electro-Optical instrurnent composed of a high spectral resolution imaging spectrometer that is optically integrated with a medium resolution panchromatic camera. Basing on the pushbroom concept (no scanning mechanism on board) that takes advantage of ground velocity of the satellite, such instrument provides hyperspectral images of the Earth with 30 m ground sample distance (GSD), 30 km swath width, and spectral bands at an interval that is better than 12nm. It covers the Visible and Near Infrared (VNIR) and the Short Wave Infrared (SWIR) spectral ranges with Panchromatic (PAN) images provided at higher spatial resolution (5 m), co-registered to the hyperspectral ones. Tue payload is composed of three subsystems: 1) The Hyperspectral/PAN Optical Head (OH) collects the radiation by means of a telescope, disperses the radiation by means of two spectrometers, separate PAN channel using in-field separation technique, converts photons to electrons by means of state-of-the-art detectors and provides in-flight calibration capability. 2) The Main Electronics (ME) box has the function to contro!the instrurnent and to handle, according to the agreed protocols, the bit stream representing the spectral images up to the interface with the S/C Electronics. 3) The Sun Protection System (SPS) is an autonomous system, directly interconnected with PL ME and that is meant to activate a recovery action in case of failure of AOCS in order to prevent damages to the Payload Optical Head in case of direct exposition to the solar flux. The launch of the PRISMA spacecraft is scheduled for 2018 and is expected to deliver a significant step forward in the field of Earth Observation. Leonardo has the full responsibility for the design and manufacturing of the Payload in the framework of the mission operated and fully funded by the ltalian Space Agency (ASI).
