Title
Cognitive Radar
Abstract
Cognitive radar differs from traditional as well as active phased array radar by virtue of the following capability: the development of rules of behavior in a self-organized manner through a process called learning from experience that results from continued interactions with the environment. It follows therefore for a radar system to be cognitive in the true sense of the word, it must embody all the four functional blocks of cognition according to Fuster’s vision: perception–action cycle, memory, attention, and intelligence. Are these ideas applicable to radar? This is the issue that the paper aims to address.
