Exploiting SDN Approach to Tackle Cloud Computing Security Issues in The ATC Scenario
Abstract
Cloud Computing has been receiving great attention in the lust few yeurs due to the benefits it provides in terms of flexibility, scal ability, virtual ization and services provision. Nevertheless many com panies remain reluctant to such a cutting-edge techn olob'Y d ue to the challenging security issu es that come up when working with virtuu lized environments, especia lly in criticai application scenarios demanding for high safety and dependability levels. This work is aimed at discussing and presenting the main security threats affecting cloud compu ting in frastructures and their impact on criticai system s, as well as at proposing a nove! architecture in charge of r eacting to security attacks in Infrastruc ture as a Service platform s to improve their security level by leveraging their intrin sic flexibili ty. The basic idea is to migrate and reconfigure the virtual resources of the cloud by mean s of Software Defined Networkin g approach in reaction to attacks. The proposed approach has been vali dateci on a real world A ir'fraffic Contra i system, actually deployed over different countries, for which missing dependability and security targets would result in hu ge business and hum an losses.
