AutoTaxi task analysis and HMI development for for the Introduction of RPAS in non-segregated airport
Abstract
Many European programs aim at studying the introduction of Remote Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) into airspace and commercial airports. Among these, Leonardo Company is involved in the program ERA (Enhanced RPAS Automation) launched by the European Defence Agency (EDA) and an industrial consortium led by Airbus Defence and Space to contribute to the integration of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) into common airspace in Europe. The purpose of ERA is to study the Automation & Emergency recovery (A&ER) system, the Auto-Taxi system and ATOL system for UAS. In particular, two of the tasks performed by Leonardo company are to perform an Auto-Taxi risk assessment for supporting standardization and safety increase and to develop a Human Interface to help the pilot in the automatic taxing, increasing his situation awareness and reducing his workload. This paper will provide a description of the Auto-Taxi HMI developed by Leonardo, which was integrated, with other subsystems developed by partners, in an Auto-Taxi demonstrator composed by a ground control station and a remoted ultralight aircraft.
