Conformal Phased Array Calibration Based on Orthogonal Coding: Theory and Experimental Validation
This paper presents a procedure developed to calibrate a conformal phased array based on orthogonal coding modal analysis. The calibration algorithm has been applied to matrix-fed conformal array in which the phase modes are the ones generated by the Butler matrix. Each single mode is excited by using a set of orthogonal codes which are sequentially applied to phase shifters. A Hadamard matrix is used as the encoding matrix. The received signals are accumulated in vector forms and are decoded by using the inverse of the encoded matrix. The method has been extensively applied to L band conformal array composed by 64 and 128 elements.
