Titolo
On the use of Low Earth Orbit Satellite for measuring surveillance radar antenna beam pointing
Abstract
The main problem to solve is how to measure the accuracy in pointing the beam of a defence surveillance radar towards very high (>45°) elevation angles. A number of techniques has been proposed; one of them relates to the tracking of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite This paper reports on the results achieved in an experimental test conducted with the Finmeccanica surveillance radar RAT (Radar Avvistamento Terrestre) 31DL long range radar in December 2014 – January 2015. The objective of the test was to determine the capability of the radar of detecting and tracking Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites with an external cue command derived by the NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) Two Line Elements (TLE)
