On March 2th, EDA (European Defence Agency) held an online workshop to promote technological civil-military synergies under the Agency’s ANDES (ANalysis of Dual usE Synergies) project.
Launched in June 2020, the ANDES project aim at strengthening civil-military ties on innovation and R&T, for the benefit of both sides, by developing a Dual Use Technology Transfer Mechanism (DUT2M).
The workshop gathered participants from EDA Member States, EU institutions, industry, think tanks, academia and research centres, and was particularly focused on discussing and defining the most appropriate and promising general framework for future civil-military synergies.
A particular focus during workshop sessions, in which Leonardo was involved, was dedicated to how Technology Transfer can be approached at the best in supporting Aerospace & Defence ecosystem, facilitating the dialogue betwwen institutional stakeholders (e.g.EU bodies, EDA, Ministries of Defence of the Member States) and industries, universities and research institutions. Dual Use Technology Transfer Mechanism (DUT2M) is a sound institutional boost and can be stimulus for the development of common instruments that encourage and support synergies between civil, defence and space industries to boost innovation and deliver concrete societal benefits.
